Key points of the prefectorial order of May 15th, 2006
regulating access to the forest massifs in the Var and traffic / parking on
certain ways nearby
(Excerpts of article 3 regarding the rules of access to the forest massifs)
From June 21st to September
30th, drawing upon the risk forecasts estimated by the French weather agency
Meteo France, the préfecture releases a map, updated daily, showing the
level of fire risk for each forest massif in the Var. This map is made available
every day starting 7 pm on the websites of the préfecture (http://www.var.pref.gouv.fr)
and of the Var Department of Agriculture and Forest (http://ddaf.cdig-83.org).
Based on this map, access to the forest massifs is regulated as follows :
Yellow zones (moderate level of fire risk) :
Caution is required.
Orange zones (high level of fire risk) :
It is recommended to refrain from going into the forest massifs.
Red zones (very high level of fire risk) :
It is strongly recommended to refrain from going into the forest massifs.
It is prohibited to drive or get access by motor vehicle to all the ways listed
in the annex
to the prefectorial order that are marked with the following sign : ![]()
Black zones (critical level of fire risk) :
It is prohibited to drive or get access by motor vehicle to all the ways listed
in the annex
to the prefectorial order that are marked with the following sign : ![]()
Access by foot (walkers, hikers…) is prohibited to all woods, forests, moors,
scrublands, afforestations, plantations and reafforestations in the following
nine massifs (covering the whole Var) : Centre-Var, Estérel, Haut-Var, Iles
d'Hyères, Maures Nord, Maures Sud, Préalpes, Sainte Baume Nord, Sainte Baume
Sud.
The risks of the massif of Estérel also apply to the western massifs of the Alpes-Maritimes
